Writing Exercise 168

Good morning!

Today's prompt was again requested by a member of the Daed Pete Society, and it made me think about big things that started out small...
Here is what I thought:

2019/02/26 – First Time (free verse)

First Time
Came into existence
The universe unfolded
With a bang
And expanded at an increasing pace
Forming stars and galaxies
That flew into the growing space
All things made from matter
In a Circle of
Evolution
Revolution
Convolution
Life and Death
Revolving around black holes
Where no one knows
Why no one knows
How no one knows
Time dies
And maybe starts again
With another Big Bang

Writing Exercise 163

Hello there!

This week I was prompted by someone from the 'Dead Pete Society' again, so here is my poem on something you likely use for more things than you think:
2019/01/23 – Fingers (poem)

Snap them
To the beat
Tap them
On repeat
Clap them
If you like the feat
Wrap them
When you do the deed
Flap them
As you feel the heat
Nimble fingers
Are so neat
Appreciate
What they create

Writing Exercise 159

Merry Christmas everyone!

May your wishes come true, the feast be splendid and the time with your loved ones worthwhile. :D
Here is a little something for you to read:
2018/12/26 – Merry Christmas (poem)

Baubles and tinsel and fairy lights
A shooting star in silent nights
Cinnamon and vanilla flavours
Gifts and wishes and favours
Choirs singing a heavenly song
Knowing that you belong
With family and friends and lovers
Powdered snow everything covers
Festive and joyful atmosphere
Wishing dearly you were here
From the heart I say – it's true:
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Writing Exercise 154

Hi there!

Currently i'm on holiday. But that doesn't keep me from writing. Here is this week's writing exercise, a free verse poem inspired by a prompt:
2018/11/22 – I choose you! (free verse)

On a bright day, quite nice quite clear
His darling asked him to go
To the nearest meadow
Where there stood an apple tree
The apples were quite ripe and delicious
So he went to fetch some for a snack
Collecting a few in the tree's shadow
He was oblivious to the heinous attack
Someone sneaked up on him
Threw a contraption and hit his head
He saw stars, then it was dark
Before he knew it he was trapped
No idea how to break free from that device
His powers sealed, his body dematerialized
He was caught in that cruel confinement
Where he waited
For his cruel fate
Worrying for his family as it was getting late
He tried to cry for help
Yet his voice echoed from the walls
His situation unseen and unheard
Helpless he had to endure
Brooding and planning some kind of revenge
On the one who so heinously captured him
Sorrow and longing for home in his heart
And it tore him apart
But suddenly
The spell was broken
The contraption was opened
His matter spat out
Gaining form and body again
He found himself at some foreign place
Staring incredulously at... a human child?
Its eyes sparkling and wide
All his anger fizzled out
He would never hurt
A kid, no matter the race
Especially if it freed him
If only he knew how to get home
So he asked for the way
Yet the human didn't understand
And uttered instead a command
Confused he turned around
To see a long lost friend
Who'd disappeared some months ago
In front of another human child
Its eyes just as excited and wide
His friend turned foe and attacked
Just play along
If one of us goes K.O.
For now it'll end,”
He was told.
This is your life now.
Welcome to Hell.
If you're lucky
Someday you will be set free.
Until then you will have to fight.
That human, your master, will care for you,
Keep you confined day and night.”
Confused he looked about
The child bellowed commands left and right
And soon he understood
There really was no choice
He started listening to that voice
In the faint hope he would be released
As promised
And return home one day
But for now the child held that contraption again
Cast that spell and trapped him again
Where he brooded and waited
Forced to travel and fight
Yet he couldn't really hate the kid
For what it was putting him through
It was oblivious to his world and his worries
Yet it genuinely seemed to care
Fed him, treated his wounds
Called him a 'friend'
And went on great adventures
But always when he was confined again
He would dwell and brood
Dreaming of the place called home

Writing Exercise 152

Good morning!

Lets start the week with a writing exercise instead of ending it with one, shall we? This sonnet was also prompted by my dear writing buddy from the Dead Pete Society. Enjoy!
2018/11/05 – Dry Spell (German sonnet)

In a world of wonders and magic
Where everyone wielded a power or two
You might think it cannot be true
But something happened quite tragic

When everyone basked in their strength
Suddenly our hero failed a spell
His magic gone – he couldn't tell!
But went to get it back at great length

During adventures to gain what was lost
He attained a cursed artifact at great cost
Activated it so the deed be done

A blinding light emerged from his hands
Hit everyone everywhere all over the lands
And from then on all the magic was gone

Writing Exercise 150

Wow!

This is writing exercise 150 already. :o
This means there are 150 weeks of continuously writing tidbits behind me. With this week's little poem, here's to another 150 writing exercises. :D
2018/10/28 – The Little Leaf (poem)

There once was a little leaf
Budding on a stem of a tree
To whispered caution it was deaf
Wishing to be wild and free

There once was a bright green leaf
Basking in the summer sun
It was of the certain belief
That flying would be so much fun

There once was a withered leaf
Watching all his dear friends fall
It was stricken with great grief
Knowing this was nature's call

There once was a crumpled leaf
Covered by a blanket of snow
It had a dream quite nice, quite brief
Of buds in springtime's morning glow

Writing Exercise 147

Hey everyone!

Today is a special occasion so I waited until today to do my weekly writing exercise. Celebrating the National Day of my country I wrote a poem for you. Here it is:
2018/10/03 – German National Day (Poem)

Let me praise you
My beautiful country, my nation, my home
Your landscape is so diverse and rich
From the mountains to the sea
Never have I felt so free
Have my constitutional rights, of which
I make use, my life to hone
Let me applaud you
By xenophobia let's not be blinded
Embrace cultural diversity now
Black, red and gold
Remember what history told
Be proud of what democracy can allow
Break free from being narrow-minded
And let me love you

Writing Exercise 145

Good morning!

This week I was prompted by one of my art buddies, so I wrote a poem about 'demons'. Here goes:
2018/09/18 – Demons (poem)

Everyone has their demons haunting them day and night
Some are very real, others are just their fears
Bringing the hardest men and toughest women to tears
Gripping and shaking them until they don't know left from right
Mine lurk in the darkness inside my soul
Laughing at me, taunting me as they tear me apart
Letting me know the real torture is only about to start
How can I live when inside I have this gaping hole?
Those demons are ghastly creatures
Behind each thought their jabs and punches are vicious
They find my silent suffering so delicious
And when I look in the mirror they bear my features
There are nights when I think this never ends
When I know against them I'm a lousy defender
But in the end I swear to never surrender
And hope that one day my barren soul mends

Writing Exercise 143

Good morning!

This week I want to raise a little awareness. So I wrote a little Haiku for you. Here it is:
2018/09/04 – News (Haiku)

Why are news mostly
About something horrible?
Notice the nice things

Writing Exercise 141

A new week, a new writing exercise! :D
This time I was prompted again by my buddy from the art group, and I decided to write a German sonnet for this prompt. Enjoy!
2018/08/20 – “shadows of big creatures soar through the sky, the sky looks almost like it's burning“ (German sonnet)

The sky is painted in fiery reds
There are clouds of ash and smoke
Ghastly shadows swoosh like a feather stroke
You think you're safe at home in your beds?

A roar erupts from the heavens like thunder
The earth seems caught in a conflagration
People tremble with dread and anticipation
That those creatures tear the world asunder

Flying death approaches from the sky
Don't hope for mercy for they will deny
You think there is a silver lining?

As the shadows soar over the lands
Your fate lies solely in their hands
Onto soot and ruins the sun will be shining

Writing Exercise 138

Hello!
I'm back again with another writing exercise. This week I wrote a little poem inspired by my plans for the week. Here it is:
2018/07/30 – the visit (poem)

My friend, is it time?
The air is filled with anticipation
Let me cross for you a whole nation
My promise is ringing like a chime

My friend, be patient still
I'll soon hurry there
You know, I'd go anywhere
To meet you, and I will!

My friend, don't worry
Time sure flies by
We meet again if we try
And none of us needs to be sorry

Writing Exercise 134

Huh, the weather changed so suddenly and my grand plans for today fell through. To let off some steam I wrote my frustration into this poem:
2018/07/06 – summer days (poem)

Summer days, where have you gone?
Yesterday it was so nice and hot;
Today you would believe it not.
Look what one single storm has done!

Summer days, come back to me!
I long for golden sand on the beach:
Swimming and sunbathing – a lot of each!
Why is the temperature ten lower in degree?

Summer days, I wish you well.
At least there is more than enough rain
For the flowers to feel no pain.
This is all there is left to tell.

Writing Exercise 131

Hello again!
This week I'm a little late. But I have a summer-themed poem for you to read. I hope you can relate.
Here it is:
2018/06/16 – cherries (poem)

Spots of red between green leaves
Full and ripe and glowing
Reaching over from the eaves
For what summer has been growing
Finally claiming that sweet taste
Oh, how long did I miss
Deliciousness in my mouth so chaste
As if it were my true love's kiss

Writing Exercise 127

Hello everyone!
Today I have reason to celebrate. Why? You will see in this little writing exercise of mine. ;)
This week I have a poem for you.
2018/05/15 – nameday (poem)

A name of my own
Of all the saints to be known
Today is a day of celebration
And a little recreation
No frost as of today
So the summer may stay
Here's a little game:
What's my middle name?

Writing Exercise 124

Hello there!
I recently read a good book which inspired me to write today's writing exercise. And it fit the prompt I was given by one of my buddies from the art group. So here goes this week's poem:
2018/04/23 – hollow (poem)

A gravitation so strong
That even light cannot flee
More alluring than a siren's song
Destroying every bit of me
What seems to be so hollow
Actually can never be
The truth is hard so swallow
Mass attraction is all you see
Information may or may not be lost
For what purpose if it is sole
Being drawn in comes at a high cost
The mysteries of a black hole

Writing Exercises 118 and 119

Hello again!
I'm awfully sorry I'm late. At least I now have two writing exercises for you. Here they are.
This is writing exercise 118:
2018/03/18 – clouds (Haiku)

A cloud in the sky
Watch it gently drift away
I wish I was there
And this is what I did this week:

2018/03/20 – Where's the rum gone? (Singlish poem, or is it?)

I dun have leh.
I dun have lor.
I dun have liao.
I dun have mah.
I dun have lah.
I dun have ha.
I dun have hor.
I dun have sial!

(For some reason, I don't have it. I wish I had it, but sadly I don't. I used to have it, but I don't anymore. It would help if I had it, but I don't have it.
I really don't have it.
I'm telling you that I don't have it. Don't look at me; I don't have it.
I can't freaking believe I don't have it!)

Writing Exercise 115

Hello everyone!
Today is my birthday, so I wrote a birthday poem. Enjoy this writing exercise and celebrate with me! :D

2018/02/24 – happy birthday (poem)

Another year has gone by
Another year and I still try
Blow out candles on a cake
A wish – what will it take
To make it all come true?
Will I stop feeling blue?
My friends have come to play
I hope they have a pleasant stay
My family is here as well
There's but one thing I have to tell:
The score it ten times three
Today all drinks are on me!

Writing Exercise 108

Happy New Year, everyone.
This is the first writing exercise in 2018. At first I wanted to write a drabble, but then I noticed that, if structured differently, it becomes a poem. So here you have my first drabble-poem:
2018/01/05 – good intentions (drabble-poem)

You might have had a bunch of good intentions,
Goals to achieve,
When the old year was on the brink of dawn
And fiery flowers illuminated the sky.
Have you had any opportunity
To make them more
Than just good intentions yet?
Have you taken the first steps
Towards the road you laid out before you
A few days ago?
There's only so many tomorrows and laters.
The time is now
To be true to your word,
And your promises to yourself.
Don't hesitate!
Make the most of today
And keep your intentions in mind,
So they may come true.

Writing Exercise 104

Today is a perfect snow day. So I decided this week's writing exercise should be about that. Make yourselves cozy at home and enjoy!
2017/12/09 – a day in December (poem)

Snowflakes are silently drifting
Watching from the inside
I find it very uplifting
From the cold to hide

The world is swallowed
By the clouds of white
Warmer days are hallowed
And the wish for light

Powdered snow piling high
The world seems frozen in time
Smoking chimneys heave a sigh
Christmas carols and a chime

Writing Exercises 096 and 097

I just realised I didn't upload last week's writing exercise. Oops. XD;;
Well, then you get to read two writing exercises this week.
Last week I wrote a poem on the topic 'Winter is coming' and today I wrote a drabble about 'skyline'.
Here is number 096:
2017/10/15 – Winter is coming (poem)

Golden leaves are falling down
Holidaymakers flee this lonely town
However, don't cower in fear
Just because winter draws near
Grab a mug of coffee or tea
And dream about the beach and the sea
Take your favourite book
Build yourself a reading nook
Or possibly you decide to bake
Make lots of cookies or even cake
And sometimes maybe the weather is fine
Then go catch a bit of sunshine
Anyway, there is no reason for sadness
Soon there starts the Christmas madness
Certainly winter approaches fast
But it's up to you to make it a blast
And this is number 097:
2017/10/18 – skyline (Drabble)

Imagine you could build a city out of your favourite books, with words as tall as skyscrapers. Who would inhabit this place? Where amongst these books would your home be? Would Frodo greet you sitting on his porch smoking or Samuel Vimes pound the beat around your 'hood at night? Would you meet Hermione at the supermarket or have a meeting at Wayne Enterprise? Would you go for a health check up to Doc Frankenstein or would a raven tap the window of your 10th floor apartment? Just imagine how variegated and tempting the skyline of book spines would be!
